The authorities of the Canton Grisons draw a positive conclusion on the 49th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum WEF in Davos. They are pleased that the event was peaceful. Once again, the Canton Grisons and Davos as hosts provided ideal conditions for the annual meeting.
In addition to a large number of personalities from business, politics, and science, many heads of state and government representatives also attended the meeting. Four of the seven members of the Swiss Federal Council took the opportunity for talks within this national and international environment. At the same time, various members of the Cantonal Government of the Canton Grisons met with representatives from the business community as well as numerous representatives of other cantons and the Swiss Confederation.
Due to the international security situation, heightened control and information gathering activities were put in place for all security forces in the runup to the meeting. Well over 120 internationally protected persons requiring security measures attended the meeting. This posed a special challenge to the Swiss Confederation, the Canton and the military. Cooperation between the various services was smooth, all measures proved effective and there were no security-relevant incidents.
The Canton Grisons and the alpine city of Davos underscored their importance as a convention venue while further promoting Switzerland’s reputation as a safe and peaceful location for dialogue and exchange of views. Both the enhanced control activities by the security forces and increased police presence enjoyed acceptance among WEF participants as well as the local populace. The Government of the Canton Grisons notes with satisfaction that the challenges were mastered and the entire week was peaceful and quiet.
The World Economic Forum in Davos is possible only with the support of the numerous partners and the local populace. The WEF Committee for the Government of the Canton Grisons would thus like to take the opportunity to once again thank all cantons, the participating cities as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein for their generous contribution to the security mission surrounding the WEF. A special thanks also goes out to the police forces that contributed to the successful implementation of the annual meeting either in Davos or in their own Cantons. Finally, this thanks extends as well to all security forces of the police, the armed forces, and the border guard.
